Our seven different ponds ranging in size from 1/2 acre to 20 acres are full of stocked rainbow, brown, brook, cutthroat and tiger trout.
Some of the most notable tributaries in North America can be found in Wyoming. The upper reaches of the North Platte River flow through the Sierra Madre National Forest, then enter the Encampment River Wilderness area. French Creek and Brush Creek start high up in the Medicine Bow National Forest and run through our land. These waters, as well as our 6 different stillwater fisheries, offer guests unparalleled fishing experiences.
Flows are still great across all river systems in our Wyoming valley around the ranches. We are still floating both the Encampment and North Platte, however, flows are receding and float options will start to become more limited in the coming weeks. Fishing has been and will remain good throughout the valley. Water temps will start dropping around mid-August and with the amount of water we have the fall season here should be nothing short of epic.
Most of our major hatches (Salmon fly, Green Drake, etc) have already come and gone. Terrestrials (such as hoppers, ants, beetles, spiders, etc) are the ticket for surface action as we wait on the famed Trico hatch. This is the classic time of year where we start throwing “hopper-dropper” rigs on all systems. We recently landed 2 of the largest fish some of our guides have seen in the valley in several years. A 27” Brown was caught on the North Platte and a 26” Brown was landed on French Creek, this is partially due to the abundance of water, cooler temps, and great hatches we have seen this year. Especially after such a low water year last year, this year has been tremendous across the board and will only get better this fall!
Brush Creek Ranch is the premier destination in the United States for fly fishing experts. Our expert guides, led by Jake Keller and Matt Anderson, are familiar with every acre of Ranch terrain, in addition to species and seasonal conditions on the ranch. Whether you’re floating, wading, or both, you’ll enjoy an elite, Orvis-endorsed fishing experience.
