Dunn Vineyards Wine Weekend Event at Brush Creek Ranch

Winemaker Weekend with Mike & Kara Dunn

An unforgettable weekend of wine events imports the flavors of the Napa mountains to the peaks of Wyoming. Join winemakers Mike and Kara Dunn of Dunn Vineyards at the picturesque Brush Creek Ranch to enjoy the deep flavors and chewy tannins of the thick-skinned grapes grown on the distinctive Howell Mountain AVA. The AVA’s boundary starts at an elevation of 1400’ so even when it is cool and foggy on the valley floor, it is sunny and breezy up on the mountain. Since 1979, Dunn Vineyards has been a hands-on team, on the crush pad, in the cellar, and out farming their 42 acres to bring you the Howell Mountain Cabernet: deep concentration, bold, massive, ultra rich and elegant.

Meet Mike & Kara Dunn

While he calls himself a “cellar grunt,” Mike actually oversees the production of the wine, works with the team in the vineyards, and manages the overall operation. Before becoming a full-time winemaker, Mike pursued his other interests. He graduated from UC Santa Barbara in 1988 with a degree in Anthropology (surfing) and later owned a bike shop in Calistoga. Kara Pecota Dunn is a second-generation Napa Valley vintner. As the daughter of Robert Pecota of Robert Pecota Winery in Calistoga, and the wife of Michael Dunn of Dunn Vineyards on Howell Mountain, she has been involved in the wine industry since her childhood. After receiving her BA from UC Davis in International Relations in 1990, she worked her way up to the role of GM of Robert Pecota Winery before starting Retro Cellars in 2003 with her husband. Mike and Kara’s son, Alex, joined them at Dunn Vineyards in 2023, bringing a focus on regenerative grape farming and a “greening” of the property.
