Schoolhouse
Once serving as a place to educate children, this Bennett Schoolhouse was originally built on The Young Ranch (known at the time as Bennett), approximately five miles south of Brush Creek Ranch. Constructed over a hundred years ago in 1898, this historic schoolhouse has survived many events, including the wedding of the builder, William (Billy) Henry Butler, and served many purposes for students and community members alike. Uses for the building included a schoolhouse, church, Ladies Aid, dance hall, and music composer studio. The White family took an interest in this structure in its rundown condition. The roof had fallen in, willows and vegetation had taken over, and a century of wind and weather certainly showed on the old building. The Young family happily agreed to the White’s request to relocate and restore their beloved schoolhouse. After being disassembled log-by-log, the building was transported to Brush Creek Ranch and completely restored in 2011.
